HOW SHALL I VOTE # 5

Text: 2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

Thou shalt not commit adultery. To break wedlock.
Commandment # 7
Why is this commandment so important? Let's start at the beginning.
Genesis 1:26-28 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
God wants the earth to be completely populated. We were created to worship God. This is the reason we exit.
So that we will multiply God gave us a strong sex drive. Sex is the second strongest instinct we have. It is second to survival.
God doesn't do things haphazardly. His plan to populate the earth included the family as a way to have order. Even in the animal kingdom he established order.
Therefore, he put some rules in place. The rule for sex is simple. Sex is exclusive for people that are married to each other. No one else is permitted to engage in this activity. God feels so strong about this arrangement that he placed capital punishment on ANY deviation. The word adultery means to have sex outside of one's marriage. This is strictly forbidden.

Why Commit Adultery
We are designed to love and be loved. This leads to sex because of our strong sex drive.
God requires us to abide by his rules he has given to live by.
People commit adultery because of the strong sex drive. A person sees someone of the opposite sex that is attractive and guess what?  We MUST resist the temptation to violate these rules. This is true for all the commandments.
It was necessary for God to create us this way so we would do his bidding in populating the earth. Procreation is the number one reason for sex.

How about unmarried people. Is it permitted for them to engage in sexual activity? The answer is NO.  This is called fornication. Fornication is a perversion of what is intended. Sex is only intended for married people. Any deviation such as incest or homosexual activity is not permitted.
What if you are married and you fall in love with someone else or if you have a loveless marriage?  You must in this case resist the temptation to cheat on your spouse and do everything you can to put romance back in your marriage. MAKE YOUR MARRIAGE WORK.

Why is adultery forbidden?
Adultery destroys the family unit. Without strong families, it is impossible to have a strong civilization. Families are the building block of a strong civilization. I talked about this in commandment number five. The teachings received from parents to children establishes morals, ethics and respect in our society.
Family commitment makes men and women responsible and sensitive the emotional and material needs of the family. Adultery can lead to divorce and distrust. The adultier will think about the other person instead of his or her spouse.  Adultery can cause unwanted pregnancies. This brings about neglected children etc.
What about if both spouses agree to committing adultery? This will still hurt the family and our society.

New Testament
Matthew 5:27-29  Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
