GRACE AND PEACE

Text: 2 Peter 1:1-4 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

How do I receive Grace and Peace?

All the blessings that we receive from God come from two sources.

            1. We are blessed through the spirit. This is super natural. This is called grace.

            2. Cause and effect. Many things that happen are the result of the decisions we make. If we decide to live the way the scripture teaches us to live, we will be blessed. This lifestyle brings peace.

Decisions are like planting seeds. If you plant good seeds you will reap good fruit. If you plant bad seeds you will reap bad fruit.

            A. You start with the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.         Commit your life to God. By the grace of God your sins are forgiven.

B. Then put in practice the teachings of Jesus.

1. Pray

Prayer keeps you in touch with God. This is called communion. Every Christian needs a constant relationship with God.

Acts 12:5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

2. Read the word.

Knowledge of Jesus. His teachings. Feed the Spiritual man.

Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.

John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

3. Fellowship, Church attendance.

What are the benefits of going to church?

            1. Collective worship. Our soul is blessed when we worship togeather.

            2. We get direction for our life through the preaching.

            3. We help one another through prayer and benevolence.

            4. Church provides a common place to unit our efforts for the work of God.

Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Results of Christian lifestyle

            1. Partake of his divine nature. A rich and meaningful relationship with a real God.

            2. Peace and Joy. Not doubled, multiplied. Verse two in the text.

            3. Direction for life. Cause and effect. We learn to make good decisions.

            4. Strength from one another.

            5. Ministry to and from others.

Verse four. Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
