            Text: Genesis 4:1-2 And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days.

Judah

8"Judah, your brothers shall praise you. Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies. Your father's sons shall bow down to you.

Judah's name means praise.

His mother praised God for him.

Genesis 29:35 And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.

 

Judah was praised by his brethren but even more by his descendants, especially Christ was praised.

 

9"Judah is a lion's whelp.  From the prey, my son, you have gone up.
 He couches, he lies down as a lion.  And as a lion, who dares rouse him up?

The tribe of Judah was a great warriors. They fought like a lion. They were very cunning. They wasn't mean or cruel. Just great fighters.

 

10"The scepter shall not depart from Judah. Nor the ruler's staff from between his feet. Until Shiloh comes. And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.

The tribe of Judah led the nation in leadership, especially under king David. God's people gladly followed them.

 

The messiah came from this tribe.

 

Jesus descends from the tribe of Judah

Revelation 5:5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

Hebrews 7:14-16 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood. 

15 And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest.

 16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.

 

The fruit of the vine represents the blood of Christ that is applied by faith.

11"He ties his foal to the vine. And his donkey's colt to the choice vine.
         He washes his garments in wine. And his robes in the blood of grapes.

12"His eyes are dull from wine. And his teeth white from milk.

 

Proverbs 31:6-7 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.

⁷ Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
