THE GOSPEL

Text: Acts 16:25-34  And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.
27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.
28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.
29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,
30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.
Verse 30, Question; What must I do to be saved? Saved from what? Saved from the bondage of sin.
Verse 31, Answer; Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.
Verse 32, What words did he speak to them?
            1. He told them that all have sinned.  Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
            2. Paul explained the penalty of sin.  Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Ezekiel 18:20  The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father; neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. Everyone is responsible for their own sins.

            3. Paul teaches God's solution for sin. Isaiah 53:5 but he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

            4. The last thing is our response to Gog's call.  1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
            5. What now?  1 John 4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
Verse 33, The guards took Paul and Silas, washed their stripes and was baptized of them (Paul and Silas).
Verse 34, The guard took them home and feed them. They rejoiced. The guards whole house got saved. This became a family affair.
