WORSHIP A LITTLE KID?

Text: Matthew 2:1-12 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.

And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,

And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.

And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.

When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.

12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

Verse one  Herod was king of Israel (Matthew) and Augustus was Caesar of Rome (Luke).

Verse two and verse eleven; Wise men came to worship him

Verse four; Where is this new king? The chief priests and scribes were teachers of the Mosaic Law in the synagogues. These men would know where the prophets foretold the birth of the coming king.

Verse eleven; It was customary for royalty to present gold to reigning kings when passing through their land as a jester of good will.

These wise men recognized the royalty of Jesus.

Verse two and verse eleven tells us that the wise men worshipped this child that couldn't be more than two years old. Would this be proper? This baby was born king of the Jews. This baby was saviour, king and even God, Emanuel= God with us.

2 Kings 11:21 Seven years old was Jehoash when he began to reign.

2 Kings 21:1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign

2 Kings 22:1 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign

2 Chronicles 25:1 Amaziah was twenty and five years old when he began to reign

2 Chronicles 33:1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign

2 Chronicles 34:1 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign

2 Chronicles 36:9 Jehoiachin was eight years old when he began to reign

Worship him

John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

1 Timothy 2:8 I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

Who shall worship?

Psalm 66:1-4 Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands:

Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious.

Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! Through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.

All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah.

Romans 14:11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

Musical insturments

Psalm 81:1-4 Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.

Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.

Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.

For this was a statute for Israel, and a law of the God of Jacob.

Psalm 98:4-6 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.

Sing unto the Lord with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.

With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the Lord, the King.

Psalm 95:1-3 O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

Sing in church

Psalm 100:1-5 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.

Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
