A NEW BEGINNING (baptisms)

Text: Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

Beginning doctrines

Hebrews 6:1-3 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

And this will we do, if God permit.

Foundation of repentance

Faith toward God

Baptisms

Laying on of hands

Resurrection of the dead

Eternal judgment

There are four baptisms in the New Testament.

They are.

            1. Baptism unto repentance. John the Baptist; Mark 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

This baptism is not valid after the cross.

            2. Baptism into the body of Christ.

            3. Baptism in water.

            4. Baptism in the Holy Ghost.

Number 2,3&4 are found in Matthew 28:19. Let's take a look.

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

            Name of the Father.

This is when we get saved.

Baptism # 2.  1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

1 Peter 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Is this water baptism or baptizing into the body of Christ?

            Baptism # 3 Name of the Son is water baptism. Acts 2; 38, 8:16, 10:46- 48, 19:3-5 etc.

Romans6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Colossians 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

Baptism # 4 Name of the Holy Ghost

Luke 3:16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire.

Acts 2: 1-4 Acts 2:1-4 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Many places in the book of Acts we find people receiving this gift, such as     Acts 10:45-46  And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.

This is the foundational teaching of baptisms in Christianity.
