ATTRIBUTES OF A GODLY MOTHER

Text: Luke 1:30-35 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God.
31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Some Attributes.
            1. A model to follow. God revealed his plan for Mary and her son. This had to be difficult for Mary to understand. Mary must have struggled with this. We just have to put our faith in God and all will be O.K.… Mom is the main caregiver. It is her responsibility to nature the gifts that God has given to her children. God doesn't intend for parents to raise their children alone, he wants to help.
Ruth Bell Graham said; As a mother it is my job to take care of the possible and to trust God to take care of the impossible. Godly mothers trust and can be trusted.
            2. An optimist. A Godly mother is an optimist. She has faith in her children.
In John2:1-11. Mary displays confidence in her son to take care of the problem of the wine shortage. Mary didn't know what Jesus would do, but she knew he would solve the problem. Children's attitudes are shaped by their parents more than any other. A child's level of optimism parallels very close to that of their parents. Don't be a pessimist.
            3. A mainstay. At the foot of the cross, Mary demonstrates her outstanding attribute. She stays with Jesus when the whole world has turned its back on him. Mary stayed close to her son, just as all Godly mothers do. A main mast of a ship is the support of the ship. It is crucial to the ships ability to function. This is a beautiful picture of all Godly mothers. Without faith it is impossible for a mother to please God.
Rebeca saved her son Jacob by sending him away.
            Mothers worry about their Children
Mary the mother of Jesus. Luke 2:48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? Behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
Moses mother gave him away to save him.
The mother of James and John desired favor for her sons
Matthew 20:20 Then came to him the mother of Zebedees children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.
Jesus provides for his mother
John 19:26-27 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
            27. Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.
OLD TESTAMENT RULES CONCERNING MOTHERS
Exodus 20:12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
Exodus 21:15 And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death.
Exodus 21:17 And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.
