HANDBOOK FOR RAISING CHILDREN



      Text: proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
             2 Timothy 3:14-15  But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

            2 Timothy 1:5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
            Timothy received his education from his mother and grandmother. What textbook did these women use? Is this book available today and if it is, should we use it today? How about the book of Proverbs? Let's take a look.
           
Proverbs

            1. Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

                The word GOD is not a byword. Teach to honor God.
            2. Proverbs 1:8  My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.
            Honor thy Father and thy Mother, get long life. Exercise, diet etc..?
           
            3. Proverbs 2:16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words.
            Teach children to have a pure heart. Be careful what your children hear, read etc. such as TV, movies, internet, piers etc.
            4. Proverbs 3:3-10  Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart.
            Teach to love people. Don't be critical.  
So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
            5. Proverbs 3:5-8 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
Teach to have faith in God.
6. Proverbs3:9-10
Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
            Teach to take care of money. Spend it wisely. Support God's work (tithe and offerings). Be generous. Not foolish.
            7. Proverbs 3:27 Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.
            Teach to pay their bills. Help people with labor, advise, encouragement  etc…
            8. Proverbs 4:24 Put away from thee a forward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
            Teach to abstain from foul language. Teach by example. Like father like son.
            9. Proverbs 6:9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
            Teach your children to work. Give them chores etc…
            11. Proverbs 13:20 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.
            Teach to select friends.
            The attributes of the Proverbs 31 woman didn't just happen. They came from a lot of training.
