Text: 1 Corinthians 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
Instruction for runners

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
To study is to investigate. We must take a look at ourselves to see if we are living the kind of life that God wants us to live. If we are not careful, we will let things creep into our lives that are not like Christ.
2 Timothy 2:16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
Don't get bogged down with things that rob us of our joy and service.
2 Timothy 2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
21If a man therefore purge himself from these (vessels of dishonor), he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
24And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

5Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:

Stony ground: Matthew 13:18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.
20But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;
21Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.

Relay Race
2 Timothy 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
In a relay race, you must pass the baton to the next person. Don't drop the baton or give it to the wrong person.
Don't substitute the baton for a different one. Stay with the original one.
