WHAT ABOUT SIN

Text:    John 8:1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
2And early in the morning he came again into the temple and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
3And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
4They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
6This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
7So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
9And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

John 8:1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.

It seems that Jesus spent the night on the Mount of Olives. Maybe he prayed all night or perhaps he wasn't invited to stay in anyone's home.

2And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.

Why the temple? Jesus taught in a lot of different places. By the seaside, on a mountain side etc… He taught here because this is where the people was.

3And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,

These Scribes and Pharisees not only didn't attend these lessons of Jesus, but they interrupted those that wanted to learn.

4They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.

Here they call him master. The day before they call him deceiver.
Perhaps they thought flattery would puff him up and catch him off guard.

5Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?

It is common for those living in sin to be severe in others sins.

What sayest thou that pretendest to be a teacher sent from God? Will you repeal old laws or enact new ones?

6This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.

What did he write? Was he ignoring them?
We should be slow to speak. Think twice and speak once.

7So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

Here Jesus turns the conviction of the accursed to the accusers.

8And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

Perhaps he wrote the sins of the accusers.

9And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

This woman had no defence, she was caught. If she wasn't caught, she might have continued in sin. This way she repented and was freed from sin.

10When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee?

We should be favorable not to the sin but to the person.

11She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her. Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

Let's see what the bible says about judging another.

Romans 2:1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
2But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.
3And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

John 3:17   For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

4Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
           5But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
6Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
7To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
8But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
          9Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

This verse is for today as well as for eternity.

10But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

This verse is also for this life as well as for eternity.

11For there is no respect of persons with God.
12For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law.

Jeremiah 17:1 The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, and with the point of a diamond: it is graven upon the table of their heart, and upon the horns of your altars.

God does not forget our sin unless we confess and forsake it.

Galatians 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
