PERILOUS TIMES Part two

Text: 2 Timothy 3:1-5 New International Version (NIV)

3 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.

People will be lovers of themselves; lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,

without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good,

treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—

having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

Conditions in the world and the church

The last days include the entire church age.

Men shall be lovers of their own selves. They will covet

            They will boast about themselves.

            They will gossip.

            They will disrespect their parents.

            They will not be thankful.

They will not respect the things of God.

            They won't have natural affection.

They won't have love in their character.

          Without natural affection. (Verse three).

Self- righteousness

Romans 10:3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

God's righteousness

Romans 8: 1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Condemnation comes from sin. Jesus eliminates sin.

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Self-denial

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Mammon= wealth.

Cowboy on the fence.

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Matthew 16:24-26  Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Difference between our way and God's way

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

2 If I have the gift of prophecy and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

3 And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.

This of course speaks of the difference between our works and God's method of living.

What is God's way?

1Corinthians 13:4-7 Living Bible

Love is very patient.

 And kind

 Never jealous

Never envious,

Never boastful,

Never proud

Never haughty

 Never selfish

Never rude.

Love does not demand its own way.

Love is not irritable

Never touchy.

Love does not hold grudges

Love will hardly even notice when others do it wrong.

Love is never glad about injustice,

Love rejoices whenever truth wins out

If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him,

You will always expect the best of him,

You will always stand your ground in defending him.

1 Corinthians 13:8 -13

8 Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away.

9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part.

10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away.

11 When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things.

12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.

13 But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.
