Text: Mark 12:1-12 And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged a place for the wine fat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country.
2 And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard.
3 And they caught him, and beat him, and sent him away empty.
4 And again he sent unto them another servant; and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled.
5 And again he sent another; and him they killed, and many others; beating some, and killing some.
6 Having yet therefore one son, his well-beloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, they will reverence my son.
7 But those husbandmen said among themselves, this is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours.'
8 And they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.
9 What shall therefore the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.
10 And have ye not read this scripture; the stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:
11 This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes?
12 And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way.
What does this mean?
Jesus uses a parable to foretell a major change in the future of Israel.
Jesus starts by describing the present situation in Israel. God provided everything that these people needed.
Planted a vineyard= Provided an income.
Hedged it round about= Security.
Digged a winepress in it= Provided the needed tools.
Built a tower= A place to foresee coming problems.
Let it out to husbandmen= Israel of the Old Testament.
Receive the fruits of it= Worship and obedience.
Went into a far country= He gave them free will, no birddogging.
Jesus shows he will lay aside the Jewish Church. He will give it to another. What happened is the Gentiles were added to the Jewish Nation.
The covenant was changed from Moses law to Grace.
The old law
Hebrews 9:6-13 Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests (plural) went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.
7 But into the second went the high priest alone (by himself) once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people.
8 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing.
9 Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
10 Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.
11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building.
(the building of the old tabernacle).
The new building is within you. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh.
14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament (new covenant), that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament (old law), they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
Hebrews 9:24-28 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.
25 Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;
26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
