ZACCHAEUS

Text: Luke 19:1 And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.
2And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
3And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.
4And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.
5And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.
6And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.
7And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, that he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.
8And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.
9And Jesus said unto him, this day is salvation come to this house, forasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham.
10For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

2 Corinthians Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.

Luke 19:1 And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.
2And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.

A publican was a tax collector and was not liked very munch. As a matter of fact they were considered to be the worst kind of sinner.
Tax collectors overcharged and made life very hard on people.
People traveling were made to stop and their goods were examined very closely. This delayed their journeys and sometimes damaged their property. The tax collector would take a bribe instead of delaying people's journeys. Zacchaeus was chief among the publicans.

3And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.

Perhaps the spirit of God was drawing him to the Lord.

4And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.
5And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

Jesus wants to abide with everyone. He stands at the door and knocks.

6And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.

A great change was made in the life of Zacchaeus that day. This change isn't understood by most people but to the one receiving it, it is joy unspeakable and full of glory.

1 Peter 1:8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
9Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
10Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:
11Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
12Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

Luke 19:7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, that he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

Unless you experience Jesus in your life, you can't understand it when it happens to others.

When someone accepts Jesus in their life,  there is always a change.

A tree is known by its fruit. Zacchaeus demonstrated good works.

10For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Paul's story

Acts And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.
11And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,
12And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.
13Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:
14And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name.
15But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:
16For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.

Notice the difference between Ananias and those around Zacchaeus.

17And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.
18And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.
19And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus.
20And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.
21But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests?
22 But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ.
